Jan Samson Krizanic (*1995) is an Austrian drummer, composer, bandleader and multiinstrumentalist. He started playing the drums at the age of three. Other instruments such as guitar and bass soon followed. At the age of eleven he played in his first bands. The first tour through America took place in 2012, further international tours followed. In 2015, Jan Samson began studying jazz drums at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz. In 2023 he completed his Master of Arts in jazz drums with distinction there. During this time, Krizanic acted as a sideman and band leader in countless projects and bands with musical greats on the international music scene. Since 2019 he has been using his project High Touring as a platform for his compositions and artistic expression. The project varies in cast and size depending on the occasion.
In 2022 he released his debut album High Touring Collective with the High Touring 6tet. Three more singles followed in 2023 with Blues Nr. 5, Jambor and RUMSHOT. The High Touring 6tet has been playing concerts in and around Austria since it was founded in 2021. Krizanic is also the bassist for the experimental metal trio Saugbagger. The band released the first album Weihnachten so schön und 10 weitere gottlose Banger in 2022 and the album Morbus Kobold in 2023.
In terms of style, Jan Samson Krizanic cannot be classified. His musical range extends far beyond the borders of jazz, from operas of new music ("AVATARA" - Christof Ressi), to West African groove music, from grindcore to Beethoven, from reggae to the Balkans. In addition, Krizanic is part of the inclusion theater Theater INNclusive. He is also active as a percussionist and sousaphonist in various bands and projects. Jan Samson Krizanic has been living in Vienna as a freelance artist since 2020.
